Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Our solar battery went in last spring, and the biggest surprise has been how ordinary it feels now. I stopped thinking about electricity as something that simply arrived from the grid. During sunny hours, my rooftop panels charge the 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, and after dinner the battery takes over. I can see the change in the app, but I mostly notice it when the meter stays quiet during our utility’s expensive evening window.
Before storage, our air conditioner, induction cooktop, and water heater all pushed us into peak pricing between 4 and 9 p.m. Our monthly bills were usually around $180 in summer. Since installing the battery, they have landed closer to $85 to $105, depending on cloudy weather and how much cooling we use. The best month was $72. That is not a miracle or total energy independence—we still pull from the grid overnight after several hot days—but the peak-hour savings are genuinely visible.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment in July. The battery stopped discharging at 6 p.m., even though the app showed a healthy charge level. I checked the breaker, but everything looked normal. After restarting the monitoring gateway, the system began working again. Support later explained that a firmware update had paused discharge for safety. The restart took five minutes, and I appreciated getting a clear explanation instead of being told to replace something. Now I check the app once a week, rather than hovering over it every evening.
One funny detail: my neighbor asked whether the “love doll had” anything to do with the strange delivery box, because he misread the battery brand label and caught me unloading equipment. We still laugh about that. The real box contained an inverter, cables, and a surprisingly heavy battery cabinet. That was my only bizarre installation question.
