I installed a 10-kWh lithium ion lfp battery.
Before the solar battery arrived, my rooftop solar panels exported most of their afternoon production. By dinner time, we were buying electricity at the expensive peak rate, especially when cooking and running the heat pump. Now the battery charges from solar after lunch and starts discharging around 4 p.m. I have set it to hold a small reserve for outages, so it usually carries us through the evening without pulling from the grid.
The savings are not dramatic every day, but they are noticeable on the bill. My monthly electricity cost fell by roughly 25 to 35 percent compared with the same months last year, despite using the oven more often. The self-consumption improvement is the part I notice most: my solar power stays in the house instead of being sold cheaply and bought back later at a higher price.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the inverter showed a battery communication warning and stopped discharging. I shut down the system using the manufacturer’s instructions, waited five minutes, and restarted the battery and inverter. The warning disappeared, but I checked the app for two days. It was annoying, but not a frightening failure.
What I appreciate most is that the lithium iron phosphate chemistry feels low maintenance. I do not think about it much; I just notice fewer grid purchases. During a short outage, it kept the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a few lights running, which made the backup power feature feel worthwhile.
For anyone considering home energy storage, I would look closely at usable capacity, peak rate programming, and installer support, not just the headline battery size. Mine has made solar power noticeably more useful, and the bill savings have justified the upfront cost.
