I installed a 300Ah lithium battery bank beside my inverter last spring, and the biggest surprise has been how much calmer my evening electricity use feels. I chose a lithium rv battery 300ah because the format was familiar, affordable, and easy to fit into the small utility closet where my old lead-acid batteries used to sit.
The installation was not completely effortless. I had to reroute two cables, add a fuse, and adjust the inverter charging profile for lithium chemistry. The instructions were clear, but I still called the installer after seeing a warning light during the first sunny afternoon. It turned out to be a loose temperature sensor plug, not a battery fault. After reseating it, the system resumed charging normally.
What I notice most is peak-hour savings. Before storage, I would come home around 5:30 p.m., start cooking, run the heat pump, and watch the smart meter climb quickly. Now my solar panels fill the battery through the afternoon, and the battery carries our kitchen, Wi-Fi, and refrigerator through the expensive evening window. On mild days, I reach bedtime with roughly 25% remaining. During cloudy stretches, I reserve the battery for dinner and let the grid handle less important loads.
My monthly bill has fallen from about $180 to $110 on average, though weather and utility rates obviously change that comparison. The best savings appear in summer, when solar production is high and air conditioning would otherwise run during peak pricing. I also like that the battery app shows state of charge, solar input, and household consumption without me guessing.
I have not expanded the system yet. The lithium setup feels quieter and more predictable than my old bank, and it has made solar power genuinely useful after sunset, not just something I produce and immediately waste.
