I installed my solar battery storage system last spring, mostly because our evening electricity rates had become painful. The panels already covered daytime use, but by dinner time I was buying power from the grid at the worst rate. My setup is a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery paired with a hybrid inverter. I also keep a small lithium battery charger 32650 for maintaining some spare cells and portable backup lights; it is not the main household charger.
The most noticeable change came after I programmed the battery to charge from excess solar and discharge between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. Before storage, my summer electric bills averaged around $180. After installation, they dropped to roughly $105, despite running the same air conditioner and cooking habits. In particularly sunny months, I have seen bills near $70. That is not a dramatic promise from the salesperson; I watched the meter and compared utility statements myself. The battery usually reaches full charge by early afternoon, and I have enough stored energy to get through the evening without importing much.
One practical detail I appreciate is the quiet operation. I placed the battery in a ventilated utility room, and it makes only a faint hum when charging. During one week of cloudy weather, the charge level fell to 18%. I initially assumed something was wrong, but the monitoring app showed that the inverter had switched to grid support exactly as configured. I changed nothing except lowering my evening loads, such as delaying the dishwasher. The next sunny day restored the battery to normal operation.
For me, the value is not complete energy independence. It is predictable peak-hour bill savings and having backup power for the refrigerator and internet when storms knock out the grid. I would make the same choice again.
