I installed a 10 kWh home battery last spring, and the biggest difference has been what happens after sunset. Before adding storage, my solar panels exported most of their afternoon production, then I bought electricity during the expensive evening period. Now the battery charges from solar around lunchtime and runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and washing machine after dinner.

I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the inverter and found that a firmware update had reset the time-of-use schedule. After restoring the peak-rate settings and restarting the system, everything worked normally. That taught me to check the schedule before assuming there was a hardware problem.

The practical benefit is less dependence on the grid during expensive hours. I also like having backup power for short outages, although I do not treat this setup as a whole-house emergency generator. For me, the combination of lithium battery storage, solar self-consumption, and predictable peak-hour savings has made the investment worthwhile.
