The utility's evening rates were painful, especially after we started cooking dinner and running the dishwasher. The battery now charges from solar around noon, then powers the house when rates jump. I usually see it reach nearly full by midafternoon on clear days. That stored energy covers our refrigerator, internet equipment, lights, and most of our evening cooking. We still use grid power occasionally, but our peak-hour consumption has dropped noticeably. My bill used to hover around $180 in summer; this year, similar months landed near $95. It isn't a perfect comparison because weather varies, but the battery clearly does the heavy lifting.

What impressed me most was how little attention it needs. The inverter app shows state of charge, solar input, household load, and battery output in real time. I glance at it while making coffee, mostly to confirm the system is following its schedule. During the first week, I noticed the battery sometimes stopped discharging at 20%. I initially thought something was wrong, then found that backup reserve setting. The installer had set it conservatively so we would have emergency power during an outage. I lowered the reserve to 15% after understanding the tradeoff, and gained a little more usable capacity each evening. That minor adjustment mattered more than I expected during cloudy stretches.

On one rainy Tuesday, the battery reached its reserve before bedtime, so the grid quietly took over. Nothing failed, and the automatic transfer kept our lights on, which was reassuring. I am also glad I chose a modular solar battery setup. If our electricity use grows, I can add another battery module instead of replacing the whole energy storage system.
