The setup was less intimidating than I expected. The installer mounted the inverter and battery cabinet in my garage, connected the solar panels, and added a monitoring app. I spent the first week checking the battery state of charge every few hours, probably more often than necessary. On sunny days, the battery usually reached 100% by mid-afternoon. After dinner, it powered our refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, television, and occasionally the washing machine.

The biggest difference shows up between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Before installing the battery, we tried to avoid using the oven and air conditioner during those hours. Now the solar battery automatically discharges when rates rise. Our evening consumption has dropped noticeably, and our monthly bill is generally $55 to $75 lower than it was last year, even though our overall household routine has not changed much. In the hottest month, the savings were closer to $40 because the air conditioner ran constantly, but the battery still reduced the amount of grid electricity we bought.

I did have one small troubleshooting moment. The app showed the battery at 18% one morning, although the backup reserve was set to 25%. I found that a firmware update had reset the reserve setting. After changing it back and restarting the inverter, everything worked normally. Since then, I have left a screenshot of my settings in a folder for reference.

The system is quiet, and I rarely think about it now. For me, the practical benefit is not energy independence; it is using my own stored solar power when electricity costs the most. That daily peak-hour savings is what makes the investment feel worthwhile.
