lifepo4 deep cycle 48v

I installed a 5kWh solar battery system last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity from the grid. My setup uses a lifepo4 deep cycle 48v battery bank paired with my rooftop panels and a hybrid inverter.

The biggest difference has been peak-hour savings, not some dramatic overnight independence claim. Before storage, my electric meter jumped after dinner when the panels were finished for the day. Now the battery charges in the afternoon, usually reaching 90–100% by about 3:30. I set the inverter to hold a small reserve for outages and discharge the rest between 4 and 9 p.m.

On ordinary weekdays, my evening load is about 2kWh. It covers the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, television, and induction cooking without pulling much from the grid. My monthly bill fell from around $145 to $85 during the first full month, although weather and rates vary. Over six months, I estimate the battery has saved about $300, which feels more meaningful than the app’s daily production graphs.

The practical part I appreciate most is how quiet and automatic it is. I barely notice the change except when checking the inverter screen over coffee. One minor hiccup happened after a firmware update: the battery stopped discharging at sunset and stayed at 100%. I found the operating mode had switched from self-consumption to backup priority. After selecting the correct mode and restarting the inverter, it resumed normally. I now check settings after updates instead of assuming everything is unchanged.

I also like having usable backup power during short outages. The system runs my modem, refrigerator, and a few lights, though I avoid running the heat pump or oven. It is not a magic solution; the battery still depends on solar production, and winter cloudy stretches require grid power. Still, for now, happily.
