Solution Solar Battery
1,100-watt solar array on my roof used to feel almost pointless after sunset. I was exporting plenty of power at midday, then buying electricity back during the expensive evening hours. Adding a home battery changed that pattern more than I expected. I chose a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate solar energy storage unit and had it installed beside the inverter in my garage. The exact phrase 2181 appeared in the installer’s paperwork, oddly enough, and I still remember it because I kept checking that number while comparing battery quotes. Setup took most of a day, including a new essential-loads panel.
The biggest improvement shows up between 4 and 9 p.m. Before storage, my heat pump, dishwasher, and induction cooker all competed during peak rates. Now the battery charges from excess solar around lunchtime and quietly supplies those loads after dinner. On sunny days, it often reaches 100 percent by midafternoon, so I avoid grid electricity until early morning. My utility bills fell from roughly $190 a month to $85 over the first few months, despite similar habits. The savings are not spectacular every month; cloudy winter weeks still hurt. However, watching the battery charge from rooftop solar instead of selling cheap midday power has made the difference feel real. I also appreciate the app’s daily energy graph, which makes consumption easier to understand.
One small scare happened during a storm. The battery stopped discharging overnight, and the app showed a communications warning. I checked the breaker and found it had tripped, probably after a nearby lightning strike. I reset it only after waiting for the system to fully shut down, then called the installer. They confirmed the battery itself was fine and updated the firmware remotely. Since then, I have had no repeat issues. That everyday saving keeps me happy.
