I installed a 10-kWh LiFePO4 solar battery last spring because our evening electricity use kept pushing us into expensive peak hours. Before the battery, our rooftop solar produced plenty during the day, but we sent most back to the grid for a modest credit and bought power after dinner.
The installer mounted it in my garage and connected it to our inverter. Setup was easier than expected: the electrician spent most of the morning checking wiring, the shutoff, and the monitoring app. I chose self-consumption mode, so the battery charges from solar and discharges after sunset.
On a normal day, it reaches roughly 95% by late afternoon. It then runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and sometimes the washing machine. The biggest practical change is the peak-hour bill. Previously, our evening consumption averaged about 8 kWh. Now the battery supplies most of that, and our monthly bill has dropped by about $55–$70, depending on weather and rates.
That is not magic savings; the battery still needs enough sunshine, and cloudy stretches mean we buy grid electricity earlier than usual. Still, the difference is obvious when I compare utility statements.
During an update, the app showed the battery offline, although its status light looked normal. I did not open anything; instead, I power-cycled the communications gateway after calling support. Monitoring returned in about ten minutes, and stored energy had not been interrupted. That made me appreciate having a physical display and clear error codes rather than relying only on Wi-Fi.
For anyone comparing batteries, I would focus on usable capacity, round-trip efficiency, warranty, and installation support, not just the advertised number. I also see “lifepo4 cca” in battery discussions, although CCA matters more for starting engines than home storage. For daily solar storage, temperature limits, battery management protections, and reliable inverter communication matter more.
