.After installing a 10kWh solar battery at home last spring, I expected complicated wiring and endless monitoring. Instead, the setup became the most satisfying upgrade I have made to my rooftop solar system.
My installer mounted a wall-mounted battery beside the inverter and connected it to my existing 6kW array. The unit uses a pack built from 3.2 v 100ah lifepo4 battery cell modules, and the lithium iron phosphate chemistry was a deliberate choice for safety and cycle life. I wanted usable storage, not merely an impressive headline capacity.
The biggest change is what happens after dinner. Before storage, my house exported cheap afternoon solar power and then bought expensive electricity during peak hours. Now, the battery charges from surplus solar around midday and runs the refrigerator, lights, router, and heat pump in the evening. I also set the battery to preserve a small emergency reserve, which makes short outages far less stressful.
My electricity bill fell from roughly $210 monthly to $125 over the first full billing cycle. That is not a laboratory comparison—my weather and usage change every month—but the peak-hour savings are obvious in the monitoring app. On sunny days, I often reach evening with 70–85% battery state of charge, then wake up with about 25%.
There was one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time. I checked the inverter settings, found the time zone had reverted, and corrected it in two minutes. Since then, the battery management system has been predictable, and I rarely think about it during normal days.
What I appreciate most is the quiet routine. I do not need to change habits constantly or watch live power flows. The solar battery simply shifts my stored energy into the expensive part of the day at home.
