Solution Solar Battery
Very quickly, my solar battery changed the way I use electricity at home. Before installing a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate energy storage unit, I usually ran the dishwasher, heat pump, and laundry whenever I needed them. That meant expensive evening grid power, especially in winter.
Setup was less dramatic than I expected. An electrician connected the battery to my hybrid inverter and added a new breaker in the garage. The whole job took most of one morning. I spent the afternoon watching the monitoring app learn my household pattern. By the second day, it was charging from my rooftop solar around midday and switching to battery power at 4:00pm.
The biggest practical difference is peak-hour bill savings. I set the battery to discharge between 4:00pm and 9:00pm, when our utility rate is highest. On a sunny day, it covers the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, cooking, and heat pump for several hours. My evening grid consumption fell from roughly 9kWh to 2kWh. The monthly bill is now about $45 lower in summer, although cloudy weeks reduce that benefit.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging during a heat pump cycle because its reserve setting was accidentally set to 30%. I initially thought the inverter had failed. After checking the app, I changed the backup reserve to 15% and restarted the operating mode. It worked immediately. That reserve is useful during outages, but leaving it too high wastes cheap solar energy.
I also looked closely at the battery specifications because the supplier advertised eve 18650 cells. I cannot verify cells without opening, so I treat that claim cautiously; the features I actually notice are quiet operation, predictable solar charging, and no maintenance.
