Nearly two years ago, I added a 10 kWh solar battery to my rooftop system, mainly to avoid buying expensive evening electricity. The installation was less disruptive than expected. The installer mounted the battery beside my inverter in the garage, connected the solar panels, and walked me through the app before leaving. I specifically wanted an inverter battery setup that would charge during sunny hours and cover our cooking, laundry, and heat-pump use after sunset.

The biggest practical difference has been peak-hour savings. Before storage, our electricity use jumped between 5 and 9 p.m., when rates were highest. Now the battery usually reaches 100% by midafternoon and starts feeding the house as soon as solar production drops. On a typical weekday, I see only a small amount of grid power imported during those hours. My monthly bill has fallen from roughly $185 to $95, although weather and utility rates vary. That $90 difference is the part I notice most, not the technical specifications.

Winter is less impressive. Short, cloudy days sometimes leave the battery at 35% by evening, so I still pull from the grid and accept a higher bill. I stopped expecting “energy independence” every month; the battery is really a buffer, not magic. I also learned to stagger appliances. Running the dishwasher and washing machine together can drain the stored energy faster than I expected, especially when the heat pump is working. The monitoring app makes this obvious: I can watch the battery state of charge fall in real time and shift flexible loads to late morning.

I had one minor troubleshooting moment last summer. After a brief power outage, the system remained in standby instead of powering the house. The app showed a communication warning. I restarted the battery controller, checked the breaker, and it recovered quickly.
