Solution Solar Inverter
Nearly two months after installing my home solar battery, I stopped checking the weather app every morning. My main goal was simple: use less grid electricity after sunset, especially during the expensive peak period from 4–9pm.
The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery beside the inverter and connected it to my existing rooftop solar panels. On the first day, I watched the app fill the battery to 100% before lunch. By dinner, it had already carried the dishwasher, refrigerator, and lights without pulling much from the utility. That felt surprisingly satisfying.
The biggest difference shows up on my bill. Before storage, my evening usage averaged about 8kWh, and those peak rates added up quickly. Now the battery discharges between 4pm and 9pm, then recharges from solar the next day. My monthly bill fell from roughly $185 to $63, even though our household habits have not changed. In cloudy months, it is closer to $90, but that is still a noticeable improvement.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging overnight and the app showed “standby.” I power-cycled the inverter, checked the backup reserve setting, and discovered it had reset to 30%. Restoring my preferred 15% reserve fixed the problem immediately. Support confirmed the update had changed that setting.
I also appreciate having backup power during outages. It does not run my whole house, but keeping the freezer, router, and a few lamps operating is practical.
For anyone comparing a solar battery or inventory battery, I would focus less on the advertised maximum capacity and more on usable capacity, peak discharge rate, and warranty terms. My system is not hands-off, yet daily peak-hour savings are real, and watching sunlight cover our evening routine makes me smile.
