Nearly a year ago, I added an infinisolar battery system to my rooftop solar setup, mainly because my electricity bills jumped during the evening peak period. I work from home, so our house still uses plenty of power after sunset: cooking, laundry, lights, computers, and the heat pump. Before the battery, that evening electricity came straight from the grid at the most expensive rate.
The biggest practical difference is that I now charge the battery from excess solar during the day and use that stored energy from around 4 p.m. until bedtime. On sunny days, the battery usually carries us through the entire peak window. My daily bill savings vary with the weather, but I typically save around $3–$5 per day compared with the same usage before installation. That works out to roughly $80–$110 per month for us, although winter is noticeably less impressive because shorter days leave less solar energy to store.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. For two evenings, the battery stopped discharging at about 60% capacity. The monitoring app showed no obvious fault, which was frustrating. I eventually found that a backup reserve setting had been changed during a firmware update. I lowered the reserve to 20%, restarted the inverter, and the system went back to normal. Since then, I check the app every few days rather than obsessing over it.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic operation. I do not have to think about switching between solar power, battery storage, and grid electricity. The solar battery handles it in the background, and I mainly notice the result when opening the utility bill. It has not eliminated every bill, especially during cloudy weeks, but it has made our energy costs far more predictable and reduced our dependence on peak-rate grid power.
