Solution Solar Battery
Over the past six months, my solar battery has changed how I use electricity at home. I installed a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery beside our inverter in late spring. The installer finished in one afternoon, and the app showed charge levels before dinner.
My main goal was simple: keep daytime solar for the expensive evening hours. Before the battery, our household routinely bought grid power between four and nine. Now it discharges after sunset, usually covering cooking, lights, the television, and our heat-pump water heater. That change is where I have noticed the clearest bill savings.
Our monthly electricity bill fell from roughly $185 to $105, although weather and utility rates obviously vary. I am not claiming the battery pays for itself overnight, but peak-hour consumption dropped dramatically. On sunny days, the battery reaches full charge by early afternoon, and I rarely think about it. Cloudy stretches are different: the system saves enough energy to reduce, rather than eliminate, grid usage.
The backup function also gave us useful house power backup during two short outages. I did not buy a loud generator, and the refrigerator kept running without us resetting anything.
One evening, though, the battery stopped discharging at 18 percent. The app displayed a reserve setting I had accidentally raised while exploring menus. Lowering that reserve restored normal operation within minutes, which was a reassuringly minor troubleshooting moment. Since then, I have left the controls alone and checked firmware updates only when the app suggests them.
After six months, my impression is that the biggest benefit is not energy independence; it is shifting solar energy into the hours when electricity costs most. The battery works, the energy storage system needs little attention, and watching the evening meter stay nearly flat feels satisfying. I would buy it again.
