Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
After six months with my rooftop solar battery system, the biggest surprise has been how much calmer our electricity use feels during peak hours. I live in a three-bedroom home with my partner and work from home, so our evening demand used to be painfully expensive. We installed a 10 kWh lithium-ion solar energy storage battery alongside rooftop panels, mostly to avoid buying grid power between 6 and 10 p.m.
On sunny days, the panels charge the battery by late afternoon. Once the sun goes down, the battery runs our lights, refrigerator, Wi-Fi, television, and sometimes the washing machine. I also set the inverter to keep a small reserve for unexpected outages. That routine has reduced our evening grid consumption noticeably. Before the battery, our monthly bill averaged around ₹4,800. It now sits closer to ₹3,100, although the exact saving depends on weather and how often we use the air conditioner. The battery did not eliminate the bill, but saving roughly ₹1,700 most months feels worthwhile.
I spent more time than expected comparing inverter efficiency, battery warranty, usable capacity, and installation support. I even looked at havells options while researching, because I wanted a setup that would be easy to service locally rather than choosing only by advertised capacity. In the end, the installer’s monitoring app and the battery management system mattered more to me than a small difference in specifications.
My only minor troubleshooting moment happened during a cloudy week. The battery reached its reserve level earlier than expected, and the app showed grid charging disabled. I had accidentally changed the charging schedule while exploring the settings. After restoring the time-of-use profile, everything worked normally.
The best practical benefit is not seeing a dramatic zero bill. It is using my appliances when I need them, without constantly thinking about peak tariffs. Six months in, I would make the same purchase, but I would ask more questions about usable capacity and after-sales support before signing.
