Replacing my aging lead-acid backup setup with a growatt mtl 5000 51.2V Battery has made the biggest difference during our evening peak hours. I live in a small house with rooftop solar, and before adding battery storage, I sent plenty of midday solar energy back to the grid for a modest credit, then bought electricity again after dinner at a much higher rate.
Now, the battery usually charges between late morning and mid-afternoon while the panels are producing well. Around 4 p.m., it starts covering the refrigerator, Wi-Fi equipment, lights, and our television. We also run the washing machine earlier in the day when possible, but the battery handles the unavoidable evening loads surprisingly well. My daily grid consumption has dropped from roughly 12–15 kWh to about 3–6 kWh, depending on the weather and whether we use the electric oven. The actual bill savings vary by month, but I have noticed a meaningful reduction, especially during hot months when peak rates are painful.
The only minor troubleshooting issue happened during the first week. The battery stopped discharging overnight, even though the monitoring app showed a healthy state of charge. I eventually found that the inverter had switched into a backup-only operating mode after a brief grid interruption. After changing the battery priority setting and restarting the system, normal discharge resumed. I have not had the problem again.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic operation. I do not need to remember to turn anything on, and the lithium battery system gives me a useful buffer when clouds roll in. It has not eliminated my electric bill, but it has made solar energy much more practical at home. I am also considering adding another battery module later, although the current capacity is enough for our normal evening routine and occasional short outage.
