Running my small solar setup through a growatt inverter spf5000es LiFePO4 Battery has changed the way I think about electricity at home. I installed it last spring, mainly to avoid buying expensive power during our utility's evening peak period. The difference was noticeable within the first billing cycle.
On a normal sunny day, my rooftop panels charge the battery by early afternoon. I have the inverter set to keep the battery topped up from solar, then discharge after 4 p.m., when our rates increase. The battery usually carries the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and my office monitor through the evening. I am not running the oven or air conditioner from it, but for ordinary household loads it feels surprisingly steady.
Before adding storage, our summer electric bills were often around $180. With similar weather and usage, they have landed closer to $105 to $120. That is not a perfect month-to-month comparison, but the peak-hour savings are real, especially because our family cooks dinner and does laundry after work. I also like seeing the battery state of charge on the inverter display instead of guessing whether we have enough reserve.
My only hiccup came during a cloudy week. I had accidentally left the battery's low-voltage cutoff too conservative, so the system stopped supplying the house earlier than expected one evening. Nothing was damaged; I adjusted the setting according to the manual and raised the reserve slightly. Since then, the solar battery has switched quietly between charging and discharging.
The biggest practical benefit is less dependence on the grid, not total energy independence. I still use grid power overnight when the battery is low, and I watch consumption more carefully. Even so, this LiFePO4 battery setup has made my daily bills more predictable and gives me useful backup power when outages occur.
