Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
Nearly two years ago, I added a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly because our evening electricity use was eating into the savings. I paired it with an inverter solis unit, and the biggest surprise was how quickly our routine changed. During sunny days, the panels charge the battery before lunch. Once the battery reaches its reserve level, I stop thinking about electricity until dinner.
Before storage, our air conditioner, induction cooktop, and dishwasher all ran after work, exactly when grid rates were highest. Our monthly bill usually landed around $180 in summer. With the battery, I schedule the dishwasher and laundry for late morning when solar production is strong, then let the battery cover the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and cooling through the evening. Our summer bills now average about $75, although weather and utility rates vary. That $105 difference is not theoretical; I can see the battery discharge on the app while the grid meter barely moves.
One small hiccup happened during a cloudy week. I noticed the state of charge stuck at 20 percent even though the sun came out. I checked the settings and discovered the backup reserve had accidentally been set to 20%. Lowering it to 15% fixed the issue, and the system resumed normal charging the next afternoon. That moment taught me to check operating modes before assuming something was broken.
I still keep a 20% reserve for outages, so the battery does not empty itself every night. We have only had one short outage since installation, but the lights stayed on and the router never dropped. For me, that quiet reliability matters more than chasing every last kilowatt-hour. The system is not magic, but this solar battery has made our energy use calmer, cheaper, and much less dependent on peak pricing.
