household inverter

Over the past six months, my solar battery has changed the way I use electricity more than I expected. I installed a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery alongside my rooftop solar panels, mainly to avoid buying power during our expensive evening peak. The setup was fairly straightforward. The installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to the household inverter, and configured the monitoring app. I spent the first week checking the graphs constantly, which probably says more about me than the system.

On sunny days, the panels charge the battery by early afternoon. Around 4 p.m., when our utility rate increases, the battery starts covering the house. It runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, television, and usually our induction cooktop without any noticeable change. We still pull from the grid when the oven and heat pump run together, but those short bursts are much cheaper than relying on grid electricity all evening. Our monthly bill dropped from about $185 to $72.

That saving varies with weather and rates, but it has been remarkably consistent. My best month was $58, after several bright weeks; my worst was $104 during a cloudy spell when the battery never reached full capacity.

One evening, I noticed the battery showing 3% remaining, even though the app predicted another hour of backup. The system had switched to grid power, and I initially assumed something had failed. After checking, I found the battery reserve setting was set to 10%, while the app estimate had not refreshed after a firmware update. I restarted the gateway, changed the reserve back to 5%, and the readings corrected within about ten minutes. It was not dramatic troubleshooting, but it taught me not to treat the phone display as perfect.

That practical confidence matters most: solar power continues after sunset.
