Running my growatt gbli6531 battery for several months has changed the way I use power at home. Before installing it, I sent excess midday solar generation straight back to the grid and then bought electricity back in the evening. That felt wasteful, especially on hot days when the air conditioner ran after sunset.
The biggest difference shows up during peak hours. I set the battery to charge from my rooftop solar between late morning and afternoon, then discharge from about 4:30pm until bedtime. My utility bill has dropped roughly 25%, though the exact saving changes with cloudy weather and how much we cook or run the dryer. On a clear day, the battery usually covers our lights, refrigerator, Wi-Fi, television, and most evening cooling. I particularly like seeing the inverter app show household loads supplied by stored solar instead of grid electricity. It makes the energy savings feel tangible rather than theoretical.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging for one evening. The app showed it was online, but the state of charge stayed at 62%. I restarted the inverter, checked the battery communication cable, and waited about ten minutes. It resumed normally. Since then, I have left automatic settings alone and enabled alerts, which seems wiser than constantly adjusting things.
During a brief outage, it kept the router, freezer, and a few lamps running, giving us enough time to find flashlights and check the neighborhood.
I am not claiming complete energy independence; winter production is still limited, and the battery cannot replace sensible usage habits. Still, having solar storage means I use more of my own renewable energy and buy less during expensive periods. For my household, that practical peak-hour saving is the reason I would choose a battery again.
