Running my home on a solar battery has changed the way I think about electricity bills. I installed a growatt 7kw inverter 48V Battery setup last spring, paired with rooftop solar and 10kWh of usable storage. The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. My electrician spent most of the morning checking cable sizes, ventilation, and the changeover switch, then we tested the system several times before turning it on.
The biggest difference shows up after sunset. Before the battery, I routinely pulled power from the grid during the expensive evening period, especially while cooking dinner and running the heat pump. Now the inverter keeps the house running from stored solar energy until around midnight. On a normal day, I see roughly 6–8 kWh discharged during peak hours. My evening grid use has fallen noticeably, and our monthly bill is usually $45–$70 lower than it was last year, despite using the same appliances.
I also like being able to check the battery state of charge from my phone. Seeing it charge from rooftop panels at lunchtime, then steadily decline through the evening, makes the savings feel real rather than theoretical. On sunny days, the battery is full before dinner; on cloudy days, I reserve a little capacity for the evening and let the grid fill only if necessary.
There was one small troubleshooting moment in winter. The battery stopped discharging at 30%, although the app showed normal operation. I found the inverter had switched to backup reserve mode after a brief outage. I lowered the reserve setting, restarted the monitoring connection, and it worked normally again. Nothing was damaged, but it reminded me that battery settings matter as much as panel size.
After several months, I am happiest with its reliability. It quietly reduces my bill without demanding attention.
