Solution Solar Inverter
Running my solar battery after sunset has changed the way I use electricity at home. We installed a 10 kWh lithium storage battery beside our garage in spring, paired with a growatt 5000tl inverter. My main goal was simple: stop buying so much power during the expensive evening hours.
On sunny days, the rooftop panels usually fill the battery by about 2:30 p.m. Before storage, I would come home, turn on the oven, induction hob, lights, and heat-pump water heater, and watch the meter climb during peak pricing. Now the battery takes over automatically. I typically see it discharge from around 5 p.m. until bedtime, leaving the grid for overnight top-up only if the weather has been poor.
The bill difference has been more noticeable than I expected. Our first full month with the battery cut electricity costs by roughly 30 percent, or about $42. It is not a magic zero-dollar bill, especially in winter, but avoiding those high-rate hours feels worthwhile. I also changed a few habits, such as running the dishwasher after lunch when solar production is strongest.
I did have one mildly frustrating moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening, even though the app showed a healthy charge level. I found that a software update had changed the reserve setting from 15 percent to 30 percent. After lowering the backup reserve, the battery resumed normal operation. I now check that setting whenever the inverter firmware updates.
So far, the system has been quiet, predictable, and easy to live with. I like having backup power for short outages, but the everyday peak-hour savings are the real benefit. The solar battery has made our energy use feel more deliberate without requiring constant monitoring. It has also reduced my worry about outages, since essential lights and the refrigerator keep running.
