Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
2 years ago, I installed a 12 kw deye hybrid inverter with a 15-kWh lithium battery in my home, mainly to reduce the amount of electricity I bought during expensive evening hours. My solar panels usually fill the battery by mid-afternoon, and then the battery carries the house through cooking, lighting, television, and overnight refrigeration.
The biggest difference showed up on my first summer bill. Before adding energy storage, our air conditioner and cooking pushed us into the highest tariff period almost every evening. Now I set the battery to discharge from around 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. On a sunny day, we often finish that period using very little grid power. My monthly bill dropped by roughly 35 to 45 percent compared with the same months before installation. It is not magic—cloudy weather and heavy air-conditioning days still hurt—but the peak-hour savings are consistently noticeable.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. A few weeks after installation, the battery stopped discharging even though its display showed plenty of charge. I checked the app and found that the minimum state-of-charge setting had been accidentally raised to 80 percent during a firmware update. I changed it back to 20 percent, and the system immediately resumed normal operation. That taught me to check inverter settings before assuming there was a hardware problem.
In daily use, I mostly forget the system is there. The Deye monitoring app gives me enough information to see solar production, household consumption, battery state of charge, and grid import. I like watching the battery cover the evening load, but I value the quieter benefit more: fewer surprises on the electricity bill. The battery backup also keeps essential lights, internet equipment, and the refrigerator running during short outages, which has made the investment feel practical rather than purely financial.
