1 year ago I installed a 10kWh solar battery after getting tired of watching my evening electricity use push the bill upward.
The installer mounted the lithium battery in my garage beside the inverter and added a separate emergency backup circuit for the refrigerator and Wi-Fi router. What surprised me was how ordinary the change felt after commissioning: I simply chose self-consumption in the app and let the system run.
During sunny hours my rooftop solar panels now charge the battery instead of sending all their excess energy back to the grid. By about five o'clock the battery is usually near full, and it carries the house through dinner, laundry, and the expensive evening rate period. Before installation, those hours were when I used the most power. Now I use stored solar energy until around midnight, when grid rates drop.
My first complete month was the clearest proof. The utility bill fell from roughly $186 to $118, even though our household habits stayed almost identical. That is about $68 saved monthly at that pace, although I know seasonal sunlight will change the result.
I also stopped worrying about short outages. We had one during a storm, and the transfer to backup power was quick enough that the router never disconnected. The refrigerator paused for a second, but nobody reset clocks or threw away food.
The only annoyance has been a small warning that appeared twice: battery temperature was low early on a frosty morning. I checked the ventilation clearance, found a cardboard box blocking an air path, and moved it. Since then the warning has not returned.
When I compared quotes, “314ah lithium battery price” appeared in my searches, but I chose a 10kWh unit suited to my usage. For me, practical solar battery savings mattered more than maximum capacity, and the system has already made nighttime electricity feel far less expensive.
