Running my solar battery through a summer has changed how I think about electricity at home. Before installing it, my solar panels exported their afternoon production, while our air conditioner and cooking pushed usage into the expensive evening peak. Now the battery stores that surplus and carries us through dinner, so the difference shows up clearly on my bill.

The electrician mounted the battery beside the inverter in our garage, ran cables, and spent most of the afternoon checking settings and phase balance. The biggest improvement is peak-hour savings. On weekdays, I usually reach 95% charge before dinner. The battery then supplies the dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, and lights until about 10:30pm. My utility has a time-of-use rate from 4pm to 9pm, so shifting those kilowatt-hours has cut roughly $65–$80 from our monthly bill during summer. That is not a magic zero bill, but it feels worthwhile because we are using more of our own solar energy instead of selling it cheaply.
One minor hiccup happened during a cloudy week. The battery stopped discharging at its minimum reserve, even though the app showed enough energy. I discovered the backup reserve had been set to 30%, so only a portion remained. After lowering it to 15% (and keeping an emergency buffer), I got the evening output again. I now check the app weekly, rather than obsessing over it daily.
For me, this LiFePO4 solar battery has been an upgrade: reliable, quiet, and simple when configured.
