Every evening, after dinner, I glance at my inverter display before switching on the kettle. My home solar battery setup, built around a deye 5kva inverter and 10kWh lithium battery, has changed how I use electricity.
Before installing storage, my rooftop solar panels exported plenty of power during the afternoon, but I still paid noticeably higher rates after sunset. The battery now charges from solar while we are out or working, then supplies the house through the evening peak period. I set it to prioritize self-consumption, and that simple change has made the biggest difference on my bill.
During the first full month, my grid usage dropped from roughly 620 kWh to 290 kWh. My electricity bill fell by about $78, although the exact saving varies with cloudy weather and our air conditioner use. I especially notice the benefit between 4 and 9 p.m., when the battery quietly carries the refrigerator, lights, and Wi-Fi. It is satisfying to see solar energy feeding our home instead of buying expensive peak electricity.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. One morning, the app showed the battery at 0%, even though the previous evening had been sunny. I checked the inverter and found the battery breaker had tripped after a brief outage. Resetting it restored charging, and I now keep a note beside the switch and check the error log monthly.
The system is not completely hands-off, but it has been dependable, quiet, and easy to understand. The monitoring app helps me compare solar production, battery state of charge, and grid imports without guessing. For my household, the combination of rooftop solar, lithium storage, and sensible peak-time scheduling has delivered the practical result I wanted: lower bills and less dependence on the grid.
