Running our home on solar battery storage has changed my evening routine. Before installation, I watched our electricity meter nervously after sunset. Now, my family uses stored daytime energy during expensive peak hours. That difference shows clearly on ordinary laundry and cooking nights. Our utility's evening rate is noticeably higher than the daytime rate.
The battery usually reaches full charge before lunch on sunny days. Then it quietly powers lights, appliances, and our refrigerator overnight. I paired it with a growatt 2000tl inverter already on our wall. The setup was less intimidating than I expected, though cable routing took planning. Our installer explained battery management, backup loads, and the monitoring app.
I chose to keep essential circuits connected rather than the whole house. That includes our router, refrigerator, hallway lights, and small freezer. During a cloudy week, the battery charged less, but never disappeared. I did notice one confusing evening when the app showed zero solar. The inverter was still operating; the monitoring connection had simply dropped.
After restarting the router, the data returned, and charging continued normally. That small scare taught me not to confuse an offline app with an actual battery fault, especially while appliances remain powered.
My bills have fallen most during winter evenings, when heating runs longer. Savings vary with weather, household habits, and the utility's tariff structure. Still, shifting those peak-hour kilowatt-hours feels more valuable than exporting them.
I check the battery state of charge before running the dishwasher. If rain is forecast, I save capacity for essential overnight loads. That habit has made the solar battery feel practical, not merely technical.
I also appreciate that backup power switches on without much drama. We experienced an outage, and our refrigerator never stopped humming. For me, dependable peak-shaving is the main reason I would recommend storage.
