Solution Solar Battery
Running my home battery through the first full summer was when the investment finally felt real. I had installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate solar battery beside my garage, connected to a green cell inverter and six rooftop panels. The setup was less dramatic than I expected, although the electrician spent most of a day checking cable routes and programming the charge schedule.
Before the battery, my solar power mostly disappeared after sunset. At night, the house switched to grid electricity just when dinner was cooking and the air conditioner started. Now the battery charges from excess midday generation and carries us through the expensive evening period. I noticed the difference immediately on my utility bill: last July, my peak-hour usage fell from roughly 210 kWh to 48 kWh. The bill dropped by about $53, despite using the air conditioner more often. That's not a laboratory measurement, just what the statement showed, but it made the battery feel worthwhile.
The best part is how quietly it works. By around 4:30 p.m., I usually see the battery sitting near full. Around 5:00, it begins feeding the refrigerator, lights, modem, and heat-pump water heater. I can watch the solar battery percentage in the app, but most days I forget about it.
One small hiccup happened during a week of cloudy weather. The battery reached its reserve level earlier than expected and the inverter switched to grid power for several hours. I first thought something had failed. After checking the monitoring screen, I realized the backup reserve was set at 30%. Lowering it to 15% restored more usable capacity, although I kept the higher setting for winter outages.
That small adjustment taught me to check settings before blaming hardware. Overall, the battery has made evening electricity cheaper and solar power far more useful.
