Solution Solar Battery
On the first hot week after I connected my solar battery bank, I started checking the app. I have a rooftop array and a hybrid inverter, with one gotion 280ah LiFePO4 battery module storing the afternoon surplus for dinner and the evening. The useful change was not dramatic independence from the grid; it was simply seeing the house use stored solar instead of buying electricity during the pricey early evening window.
Before storage, my panels often exported power while I was out, then we drew from the grid when cooking, running the dishwasher, and settling in for the night. Now I set the inverter to prioritize self-consumption and reserve a small backup level. On ordinary sunny days, the battery is still comfortably charged after dinner. My bill has dropped, though I track the monthly total rather than pretend every saved dollar comes from the battery; rates, weather, and our habits all matter. The biggest difference shows up on peak-rate evenings, when the meter stays quiet longer.
Early on, after a cloudy afternoon, the app showed the state of charge falling faster than I expected. I checked the inverter settings and found that its reserve had been set higher than I intended, leaving less usable capacity for regular loads. I lowered it slightly, kept a sensible backup cushion, and watched the next few evenings before deciding it was fine. No hardware fault, just a setting worth understanding before judging the battery.
For me, the practical win is a calmer evening routine: I don't plan dinner around the sun, and I have a clearer idea of when grid power is needed. The solar battery hasn't erased my bill, but it makes my rooftop system feel more useful after sunset. I'm still learning the seasonal pattern, especially through winter, but checking the flows has become part of my coffee routine.
