goodwe hybrid inverter

Our electricity bills used to sting most in the evening, when we came home, turned on the oven, ran the dishwasher, and switched on the heating. Since adding a home battery to our solar system, that expensive period has become the most useful part of the day.

The setup uses a 10 kWh lithium battery with a goodwe hybrid inverter. Installation took most of a day, mainly because the electrician had to tidy the existing wiring and connect the battery monitoring properly. The app showed solar generation almost immediately, although it took me a few days to understand the flow arrows. I eventually learned that the battery charges from excess solar during the afternoon and then supplies the house after sunset.

That change has made a noticeable difference to our daily bills. Before the battery, our panels exported a lot of power around lunchtime, when we were usually at work. We received only a modest export credit, then bought electricity back during the evening at a much higher rate. Now I normally return home to a battery sitting around 70–90 percent, depending on the weather. It covers cooking, lights, television, and much of our overnight usage. On sunny days, our grid consumption is often close to zero until breakfast.

The best result is not that we never use the grid; it is that we use it less when prices are highest. Over the first few months, our electricity bill fell by roughly a third compared with the same period last year. Cloudy winter days are less impressive, and the battery sometimes runs out before morning, but that feels realistic rather than disappointing.

I also appreciate having a clear solar battery storage history in the app. It helps me spot unusual usage and adjust charging settings. For us, the battery has been a practical upgrade: less evening grid dependence, better use of our solar energy, and much more control over household energy costs.
