Very quickly, my solar battery became more useful than I expected. I installed a 10 kWh home energy storage system alongside my rooftop solar panels, mainly to avoid buying expensive electricity during the evening peak. Before the battery, my inverter would shut down when the sun disappeared, and then the house would pull power from the grid just when our rates were highest.
Now, the battery usually charges between late morning and mid-afternoon, when solar production is strongest. Around 5 p.m., it starts supplying the kitchen, refrigerator, Wi-Fi equipment, lights, and television. On a normal summer day, it carries us through most of the evening. My daily grid usage has dropped noticeably, and my bill is roughly 30–40% lower than it was before, although the exact savings depend on cloudy weather and how much cooking or air-conditioning we use.
I paid particular attention to the battery chemistry. I checked the operating schedule and found that the update had reset the time-of-use settings. Restoring the evening discharge window fixed it in a few minutes.
The most practical benefit is not being completely independent from the grid. It is making my existing solar power work harder after sunset. I still watch the battery percentage before running the dryer, but daily energy use feels much more predictable now.
