Solution Solar Inverter
Running my home battery for six months has changed the way I think about electricity bills. I installed a 10kWh lithium battery beside my solar inverter after getting tired of sending cheap daytime power back to the grid. During sunny hours, my panels fill the battery by early afternoon. Instead of buying electricity when we cook dinner, I use that stored energy from about 5:30 until bedtime.
The biggest difference shows up in my evening usage. Before the battery, my household regularly pulled 4–6kWh during peak pricing. Now the battery covers most of it, including the induction cooktop, washing machine, lights, and television. My daily bill has dropped by roughly 35–45%, although the saving depends on weather and utility rates. I am not pretending it eliminated my bill; cloudy winter days still mean importing power. Still, the peak-hour reduction is obvious when I compare the utility app with last year.
I did have one annoying troubleshooting moment. One morning, the battery showed a communication warning and stopped discharging. I checked the battery isolator, restarted the inverter, and waited ten minutes. That fixed it, but the warning returned that evening. After checking the Wi-Fi signal and firmware version, I found the router had switched channels after an update. Moving the extender closer restored monitoring and normal battery operation.
For anyone comparing a growatt on grid setup with a hybrid solar battery system, I would pay attention to load timing, not just the panel size. My battery is most useful because I reserve it for expensive evening hours, rather than chasing self-consumption every minute. The app makes that easy to adjust, and I can change the reserve level before a heatwave or a cloudy spell. It has not made us energy independent, but it has made our solar investment feel much more practical.
