Finally, after three summers of watching my rooftop solar export cheap midday power, I installed an eflex 5.4 kwh lfp battery in my garage. My main goal was simple: use my own electricity after sunset instead of buying it back during expensive evening hours.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. The installer mounted the battery beside the inverter, ran the communications cable, and connected it to my existing solar array. I did have to move a shelf of gardening supplies, but the whole installation took most of one afternoon. On the app, I selected a reserve level of twenty percent and set the system to charge from solar first.
The difference showed up on my first full billing cycle. Before the battery, my household regularly pulled from the grid between five and nine p.m., especially when the oven, heat pump, and dishwasher ran together. Now the battery covers most of that window. My energy bill dropped from about $186 to $112 the following month, even though our usage was nearly the same. That $74 reduction was the first result that made the solar storage investment feel real.
One small hiccup happened during a cloudy week. The battery stopped discharging at 61 percent, and the monitoring app showed “standby” instead of the usual arrows. I checked the breaker and noticed the battery isolator had been switched off accidentally while I was storing boxes. Turning it back on fixed the problem after the inverter completed its restart. It was a useful reminder that even a smart battery still depends on basic hardware checks.
I now check the state-of-charge graph most mornings. On sunny days, the battery reaches full charge by early afternoon and carries us through dinner. I am not off-grid, but peak-hour grid dependence has fallen noticeably for our household.
