Early this spring, I installed a deye sun 6k g hybrid inverter and a 10 kWh lithium battery after watching my evening electricity bills climb steadily for several months straight.
The setup was less intimidating than expected, although routing thick battery cables through my garage took patience, careful measuring, and one extra trip to the hardware store before everything worked.
My installer configured the solar battery to charge from excess daytime production and discharge during expensive peak hours, rather than emptying itself before dinner on ordinary weekdays at my house.
That small setting has made the biggest difference. On sunny days, the panels fill the battery by midafternoon, and the battery carries our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and television through dinner.
Before storage, those hours came straight from the grid at the highest rate. Since installing it, my bill has dropped from roughly $180 to $95 even through two unusually hot weeks.
I especially notice the savings when cooking dinner and running the dishwasher together. The inverter quietly switches from battery power only after the stored energy reaches its reserve limit.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment in June. The battery stopped discharging overnight because its state-of-charge limit had accidentally been raised to 80 percent during a firmware update process.
I found the setting in the monitoring app, lowered it to 20 percent, and watched the system resume normal operation that evening. No electrician visit was necessary I saved screenshots.
I am not pretending this battery makes electricity disappear; it simply shifts when I buy power. Still, that timing matters than I expected, especially with time-of-use rates and evening cooking.
My advice is to match battery capacity to your nighttime load, not a salesperson’s best-case estimate. Reliable peak-hour savings matter to me than backup duration, and app stays boring.
