Early last summer, my electricity bills started making me pay attention to the hours on my utility statement. I already had rooftop solar, but I was still sending a surprising amount of daytime generation back to the grid and buying power after sunset. That was the reason I finally added a 10kWh home battery storage system with a Deye hybrid inverter.
Before ordering, I spent an evening comparing the deye inverter price, installation quotes, and battery warranty terms. The cheapest quote was not automatically the best value; I chose a local installer who explained the monitoring app clearly and included backup wiring. The installation took most of a day. The team mounted the battery in my garage, ran new conduit, and tested the automatic transfer before leaving. I appreciated that they showed me how to set a reserve level instead of just handing over a password.
The biggest change is peak-hour savings. I programmed the battery to charge from solar during the afternoon and discharge between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Now the dishwasher, cooking, and evening air conditioning use stored energy first. My monthly bill fell from around $210 in summer to roughly $95, though weather and utility rates obviously vary. I do not pretend the battery eliminated my bill; fixed charges remain, and cloudy weeks still require grid power. Still, the difference is obvious when I compare similar months from last year.
One small troubleshooting moment happened during a firmware update. The app briefly showed the battery offline, and I worried it had stopped charging. I checked the inverter display, found normal voltage readings, and restarted the router. Connectivity returned after about ten minutes; the battery had continued operating normally. That taught me to distinguish monitoring problems from actual solar battery faults.
The investment still feels worthwhile.
