Solution Solar Inverter
Evenings used to be the most frustrating part of my electricity routine. Our solar panels produced plenty during the day, but after dinner we were still buying expensive power from the grid. I installed a deye 12k battery system last summer, and that one change has made the biggest difference to our household bills.
The setup was more straightforward than I expected. The installer connected the battery to our existing solar inverter, added the monitoring app, and programmed it to charge from solar first. I set the system to discharge during peak-rate hours, usually from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Now the battery runs our lights, refrigerator, Wi-Fi, television, and often the induction cooktop while the utility rates are highest.
Before installing energy storage, our evening usage regularly pushed the monthly bill above $220. During the first full month with the deye 12k, the bill dropped to $128, even though we had several cloudy days. In sunnier months, it has come closer to $95. I still pay a connection charge and occasionally import electricity overnight, but watching the daily consumption graph has been surprisingly satisfying. The solar battery is doing useful work instead of letting most of our daytime generation disappear into the grid.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. One morning the app showed the battery at zero percent, although the backup reserve should have protected it. I found that a firmware update had reset the reserve setting. After restoring the reserve to 20 percent and rebooting the inverter, everything worked normally. Since then, I check the app after updates rather than assuming the settings stayed unchanged.
The best part is not having to think about peak pricing every evening. I changed a few habits, but I no longer avoid running appliances after sunset. For me, the deye 12k has turned solar power from a daytime benefit into practical, round-the-clock household savings.
