deep cycle solar battery

Every evening, I check my solar battery app before bed. I installed a 10kWh lithium battery beside my garage last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive electricity during our utility's peak hours. Before storage, my rooftop panels produced plenty at lunchtime, but we still pulled power from the grid after dinner. Now the battery charges from solar during the day and runs the refrigerator, heat pump, lights, and Wi-Fi overnight.

The biggest difference showed up on my first full bill. My evening usage is usually around 6–8 kWh, and shifting that load out of peak pricing cut my monthly bill by roughly $65, from about $210 to $145. It is not a dramatic zero-dollar bill, but the savings are steady, and I like knowing my solar energy is doing more than just disappearing into the grid. On sunnier months, I have even seen the battery reach 100% by mid-afternoon, leaving enough reserve for the evening.

My one frustrating moment came during a winter outage. The battery had charge, but my critical-load panel did not switch over immediately. I found a tripped breaker for the backup gateway, reset it, and the system resumed in about two minutes. It was a small scare, but it taught me not to assume every circuit is backed up. I later labeled the backed-up outlets and tested them with the inverter manually.

For anyone considering a deep cycle solar battery, I would budget for installation and ask exactly which appliances are covered. My battery storage setup has not made me fully energy independent, and that was never the promise I bought it for. Instead, it gives me practical peak-hour savings, quieter nights during outages, and a little more control over my household energy use. After several months, I am happy with the decision overall.
