Two months ago I added a home solar battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly because my evening electricity use was wiping out much of the daytime savings. I chose a 10 kWh battery after comparing a few options, and the installer mentioned ctechi group during the equipment discussion.
The battery now charges from excess production around noon, and I have set it to discharge during the utility’s peak window, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. That schedule has made the biggest difference to my bill.
Before installation, I was paying roughly $180 a month in summer. Last month, with similar hot weather, the bill was $96. The battery supplied most of our cooking, laundry, and television use after sunset, while the solar panels covered daytime loads. I especially noticed the change on cloudy days: the battery still had enough stored energy to avoid buying expensive grid power at dinner.
The system’s practical performance has been better than I expected, although it is not magic. On a rainy day, the battery reached only 42% by evening, so it stopped discharging at about midnight to preserve backup reserve. I originally thought something was wrong, because the app showed “limited solar input.” I checked the inverter and found one panel string had tripped after a brief outage. Resetting the breaker brought production back, and the battery began charging normally the next morning.
That small incident taught me to check the inverter before calling support. I also learned that battery capacity and usable capacity are not the same; the reserve setting keeps about 15% unavailable unless the grid fails. For our home, that is a sensible compromise between bill savings and backup protection.
I’m pleased with the setup, and I expect payback to take several years, but quieter evenings and lower bills already feel worthwhile.
