Solution Solar Inverter
Our solar battery went live last spring, and the biggest surprise has been how much calmer our evening electricity use feels. Before installation, I watched the utility app climb every night when the heat pump, oven, and lights were running. Now, the battery charges from our rooftop solar during the day and carries us through the expensive peak hours.
I was especially nervous about the cost to install solar panels and battery. The quote was not small, and I kept wondering whether the payback would feel real or remain a spreadsheet promise. Our installer gave me a clear breakdown of the solar panel installation, battery storage capacity, permits, and expected savings. The physical setup took two days. They mounted a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery in the garage, added an energy monitor, and showed me how to set a backup reserve. I chose 20%, enough for outages without sacrificing too much usable capacity.
The most noticeable change appears between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. Last July, my peak-hour charges dropped from roughly $70 to $30 per month during the hottest stretch. That is not a perfect number every month—cloudy weather and winter production still matter—but the battery consistently avoids buying much grid power at the worst rates. I also appreciate checking the solar battery app and seeing that most of our evening usage came from stored solar energy rather than the utility.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment: the battery stopped discharging after a firmware update. I nearly called the installer, then noticed the app had reset the operating mode to “solar-only.” Switching it back to “self-consumption” fixed the problem within minutes. Since then, the home energy storage system has been boring in the best possible way. It quietly fills, discharges, and leaves our family with a noticeably smaller electric bill every month.
