Last winter I stopped treating my solar panels like a daytime-only appliance. My 10 kWh LiFePO4 battery now does most of the evening work, and that has made a surprisingly noticeable difference to our electricity bill.
The setup is a modest rooftop solar system with a hybrid inverter and wall-mounted energy storage. I chose LiFePO4 chemistry because I wanted usable capacity without worrying about frequent replacement. The best part is peak-hour control. Our utility charges more between 4 and 9 p.m., so I avoid grid electricity during that window. Before storage, our summer bills averaged about $180 monthly. This year, they have been closer to $95, despite running the air conditioner more. That is not a perfect apples-to-apples comparison, but the savings are obvious on the bill. I estimate the battery saves roughly $60 to $80 per month in peak season, depending on sunshine and our usage.
