Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Every evening, I check my solar battery app before dinner, and after six months, that habit has made the biggest difference to our electricity bills. We installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with our rooftop solar because our utility charges more during the 4–9pm peak period.
The setup was less dramatic than expected. The installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to a hybrid inverter, and programmed it to charge from solar by day and discharge at peak time. I spent an afternoon watching the monitoring screen, mostly to understand the settings.
Our first full month showed the payoff. Before storage, we used grid power while cooking, running the dishwasher, and cooling the house after sunset. Now, the battery covers those evening loads well. Our bill fell by about $68, although the weather was cloudy for a week. That is not spectacular on paper, but it feels real when the monthly payment and utility bill arrive together.
I also like knowing essential lights and the refrigerator have backup power during short outages.
The one annoying moment came during a firmware update. The app showed the battery at 100%, but our evening consumption immediately came from the grid. I power-cycled the inverter, waited five minutes, and checked the backup setting. It resumed normally that night. The installer later explained that the update had temporarily disabled discharge mode.
I would not call this setup magic, and I still watch winter production carefully. But storing midday solar energy and using it during expensive hours has been worthwhile. When friends ask for the best inverter and battery, I tell them to compare usable capacity, warranty, support, and local electricity rates, not just specifications. A solar battery should fit your actual evening habits; that is where the savings become noticeable.
