After installation, I started paying closer attention to what my solar battery actually did each evening. During sunny days, the panels charge the battery by mid-afternoon. Once the battery reaches my chosen reserve level, the inverter sends power to the house instead of exporting every extra watt. I programmed it to discharge after 4 p.m., when my utility's peak rates begin. That small change made the biggest difference to my bill. Before storage, I regularly used the oven, heat pump, and washing machine during expensive hours. Now the battery carries most of that load. My monthly bill dropped from around $180 to $70 in summer, although cloudy weeks still push it closer to $100.

The saving feels more useful than the headline number because I can see the energy flow in the monitoring app. I check it with my morning coffee, watching overnight consumption and the state of charge. On a typical night, the battery reaches about 25% by breakfast, then solar refills it before dinner. I keep a 20% backup reserve, so the system is not completely empty during an outage.

I did have one minor scare in January. The battery stopped discharging, and the inverter showed a communication warning. I power-cycled the inverter once, checked the Wi-Fi connection, and called support. They found a loose communication cable at the battery cabinet; after reseating it, everything worked normally. That taught me not to confuse a software alert with a failed battery.

I am happiest with quiet, automatic operation. There is no fuel, no daily maintenance, and no guessing when grid electricity is expensive.
