Solution Solar Battery
Charging our home battery after sunset has changed the way I think about electricity.
I installed a 10kWh accu lifepo battery alongside my rooftop solar panels last spring, mainly to avoid buying expensive evening power. The installer finished in one day, and the setup was less disruptive than I expected. They mounted the inverter and battery on a garage wall, then spent time explaining the monitoring app instead of rushing away.
My biggest surprise has been the peak-hour savings. Before storage, our family regularly used the oven, dishwasher, and heat-pump dryer between five and nine p.m., exactly when electricity cost the most. Now the solar battery takes over at sunset and carries those loads through dinner and bedtime. On clear days, the panels refill it by early afternoon, so I rarely draw from the grid until morning.
My monthly bill has dropped from roughly $180 to $95 on average. That is not a perfect comparison because utility rates changed, but the difference is obvious on the hourly usage chart. I also like having backup power during short outages. The battery switches over automatically, keeping our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a few lights running. It is not enough to run the whole house indefinitely, but it prevents that frantic scramble for extension cords.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. During a cloudy week, the app showed the battery stuck at 12 percent even though the panels were producing. I checked the breaker and found nothing wrong. Support identified a firmware update waiting for approval; after restarting the inverter, charging resumed normally. It took about ten minutes on the phone, which was reassuring.
I am still learning to shift heavy loads into sunny hours. Running the washing machine at lunchtime gives the battery more energy for evening. That routine makes solar power practical.
