Normally, my evening electricity use was the part that hurt most. After installing a 10 kWh solar battery last spring, I started using stored solar power between 4 and 9 p.m., when our utility's peak rate applies. The difference showed up quickly: our first full month dropped from $186 to $112, even though the weather was ordinary.
I did not expect the battery to change our routine much, but it became the thing I check before turning on the oven. During sunny afternoons, our rooftop solar fills the battery after covering the refrigerator, internet equipment, and other daytime loads. At dinner, the inverter switches over automatically. I can hear a faint click in the utility closet, but there is no interruption. By bedtime, we usually have 25 to 35 percent remaining, which gives me some comfort during short outages.
The useful feature has been the monitoring app. Its graphs let me see solar generation, household consumption, and battery discharge without guessing. One evening the app displayed “LnvOpzp” beside a warning I initially thought was a serious fault. I checked the manual, found it was a temporary communication code, and restarted the gateway. The battery itself kept powering the house, and the warning disappeared after about ten minutes. That scare taught me to distinguish an app connection problem from an actual storage problem.
My savings are not identical every month. Cloudy weeks mean the battery charges less, and the winter heating load still pushes the bill up. Even so, peak-hour usage has fallen dramatically, and I am exporting less midday solar energy for a poor credit. I also like that the system uses lithium iron phosphate cells and has a reserve setting for outages. It has not made electricity free, but it has made our solar investment noticeably more useful every day.
