I installed a 10-kWh solar battery last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity from the grid. Before the battery, my rooftop solar panels produced plenty at lunchtime, but I sent most of it back to the utility for a small credit. After dinner, my family used power for cooking, laundry, and the heat pump, so our house quietly switched back to grid electricity.

The biggest surprise was not the savings but how often I checked the app. It gives me a graph of solar production, home consumption, and battery state, and I started shifting dishwasher cycles into late morning. That habit means more solar self-consumption without changing our routine much.
One evening, the system stopped discharging at 19%, even though the app showed plenty of stored energy.
