The practical test came during a cloudy January week, when solar production was weak and the battery emptied earlier each night. Even then, I still avoided the highest evening rate on most days, because the battery reserve was set at 20%. I also appreciate that it keeps working during short outages, though I have not tested long backup yet.

For me the real win is predictable monthly savings.
