8 months ago I installed a 10kWh lithium battery beside my home inverter, and the biggest difference has been what happens after dinner. Before the solar battery, I used to pull electricity from the grid from about 5:30 p.m. until bedtime, exactly when our utility charges were highest. Now the battery stores excess rooftop solar during the afternoon and quietly carries our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and television through those expensive hours.
Savings vary with weather, but my monthly bill dropped from roughly $180 to $105 during the first full month. That is around $75 saved without changing how we live. On sunny days, the battery reaches 100% by mid-afternoon, and I enjoy seeing the inverter show our loads running from stored energy. Instead of the grid.
Setup was easier than I expected, though I spent an evening reading the battery management settings. The installer configured a conservative 20% reserve, so I still have backup during an outage. I also keep a 48v ncm lithium battery charger available for maintenance charging, though the solar inverter normally handles charging.
My only hiccup came during a heatwave. The battery stopped discharging for about ten minutes and the app displayed a temperature warning. I turned off the pool pump, checked ventilation around the enclosure, and waited. It resumed automatically once the temperature fell. That taught me not to cram boxes around the equipment and to watch the battery monitoring app instead of assuming everything was wrong.
After eight months, I am happiest with the predictable evening savings, not the technology itself. I am still paying attention to battery degradation and warranty. But every month that solar energy storage covers peak demand feels like money I kept rather than sent to the utility.
