Before storage, our evening electricity use pushed us into the expensive peak period. We cooked, showered, and ran the dishwasher between 5 and 9 p.m., exactly when the rate was highest. Now I set the battery to discharge during those hours and reserve 20 percent for backup. Our monthly bill dropped from about $210 to $118 in the first full month, and it has stayed around $120-$135 since, depending on cloudy weather. That saving feels more real than any promised payback calculation because I see it every month.

Setup was straightforward, although I spent an embarrassing afternoon wondering why the battery showed no charging current. The panels were producing, but my charging schedule was set to start at noon and the battery had already reached its reserve limit from a previous test. I changed the schedule, lowered the reserve temporarily, and everything worked. I also bought a 48v lifepo4 battery charger for occasional balancing and emergency top-ups, though I rarely need it because the inverter manages normal charging well.

The battery has covered two short outages without any fuss, keeping the refrigerator, internet, lights, and my home office running. It will not power the electric oven or heat pump indefinitely, so I am careful about large loads. Still, this solar battery storage setup has made our solar investment more useful. I check the app once or twice a week, not obsessively, and the quiet savings are exactly what I wanted.
